New to driving hydrogen?
Don’t worry, the Mirai drives just like a regular automatic vehicle. It’s quiet, smooth, and easy to use, with no special steps required. Simply get in and drive as you normally would.
Fuel Range
The recommended safe driving range is around 250km, providing a comfortable buffer to avoid running low.
Driving the Toyota Mirai
- Sit in the driver’s seat with the key fob and press the brake pedal.
- Press the POWER button and wait for the “READY” light.
- Select Drive (D) while keeping your foot on the brake.
- Release the brake slowly and gently press the accelerator to move.
- Drive as normal, the vehicle is very quiet and smooth.
- Brake to slow down or stop.
- When finished, press P (Park), then press POWER to turn off

FAQs
Refuelling
To help us prepare the vehicle for the next customer, please return the Mirai with at least 25km on the range indicator remaining. There’s no need to refuel, we’ll take care of that for you.
If the Mirai runs out of hydrogen
Contact Ezi Roadside Assistance (24/7) on 0800 736 453. The vehicle will need to be transported to a hydrogen refuelling station and additional charges may apply.
Return location
The Mirai must be returned to the same pick-up branch at Palmerston North Airport. A $1000+GST repositioning fee applies otherwise.
Driving range
The range is approximately 250km, depending on driving conditions and driving style.
Water puddles
It’s normal for the Mirai to leave a small puddle of water after parking, this is a natural by product of the hydrogen fuel cell.
Unfamiliar noises
You may occasionally hear quiet humming or clicking sounds, this is part of the normal operation of the vehicle’s hydrogen system.
